Vendredi Slam has been regarded as the pioneer of spoken word poetry events in Dakar where each slam could gather a community of 500 – 1000 people and has collaborated with established organizations such as the French Institute and Goethe Institute. Known as the most sustainable slam collective in Senegal, since 2008, Vendredi Slam events occur on the first Friday of each month. Committed to Growing the Senegalese literary scence, the collective co-founded the Senegalese league of slam poetry to promote local poets to compete in international slams. This organization was recently recognized by the Chief of State for winning the African Poetry Slam Cup.

Amplifying The Trailblazing Arif!
The falling confetti doesn’t mark a threshold to his creativity; but...
From mastering rhymes on the humble streets of Dakar, Senegal. To claimining a seat at the prestigious Senegalese poetry slam panel of judges and paving the way for budding poets is none other than Arifstyle.
Born Elhadji Cheikh Amath Niang, affectionately known as Aristyle is a wordsmith deliberately addressing issues related to well-being, spirituality and politics. Advancing into a dimension leveraging his clairvoyance is what those who have seen him behind the mic can attest to. The falling of confetti doesn’t mark the threshold of his creativity; but the greenlight to embark on other avenues like fascilitating creative writing sessions at his Alma mater. As well as teaching poetry to kids at the SOS village du Senegal and organizing poetry sessions alongside the Vendredi Slam.
“We are currently preparing the final Dakar Poetry Slam slated for December 22 2019 at the cultural center Blaise Senghor. The poetry Slam champion will represent Senegal in the Ethiopia African cup poetry Slam, in 2020! I sincerely thank the president and co-founder of the Senegalese league of poetry Slam: Omar ben Keita for supporting the vision since day one!” narrated the wordsmith.
I don’t know about you; but my hat is already in the hand- in awe of all the phenomenal strides covered by Arif!
